The Bedford Hills Correctional Facility in the only maximum security women’s prison in all of New York, and they have a great need for Bibles

The Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women, a women’s prison in the town of Bedford, New York, is the only maximum security New York State women’s prison. The prison previously opened under the name Westfield State Farm in 1901. It lies just outside the hamlet and census-designated place of Bedford Hills, New York. The facility holds a little under a thousand prisoners. Today, Chaplain Varughese reached out to tell of us their need for King James Bibles in English and Spanish New Testaments.

The Bedford prison has a long an storied history, becoming home for a time to women such as Amy Fischer known as the ‘The Long Island Lolita’ who shot the wife of her lover Joey Buttafuoco, Jean Harris who shot and killed Dr. Herman Tarnower, author of ‘The Scarsdale Diet’, and many other souls both infamous and unknown. It is so exciting to see the Lord opening this amazing door for us to get Bibles and copies of ‘What Must I Do To Be Saved?’ into the hands of these women who so very much need them. Thousands of Bibles going out to prisons, and a single KJV dispatched to a young teenage boy sitting in darkness behind steel bars. Just one more soul.

Years ago, NTEB’er Marie Comfort sent us a song the Lord had given her about reaching the lost called ‘Just One More Soul’, and it’s been a staple in our programs ever since. We have it on the NTEB Jukebox on Spotify, and you could say it’s as close to a theme song that we have. Yesterday, I received a phone called from another NTEB’er named JH, with a request for us that brought that song roaring to life once again. In the midst of sending thousands of Bibles out from Florida to Alaska, could we send out just one to a scared teenage boy sitting alone in a prison in Idaho?

JH has been listening to our broadcasts for some years now, and he told me that he goes to church with the boy’s grandmother, how her heart was broken for his situation, and how much she desperately wanted to get him a Bible. His first thought was the Bibles Behind Bars program, and he called me up to see if we could help. We have had no luck in the past with sending a single Bible out to a prison due to the strict regulations placed on incoming packages, but I told him I would try. Long story short, the Lord opened a door through a short series of calls, and permission was given for us to send out a single Ruckman Reference Bible which went out in the mail yesterday. Praise the Lord! In the midst of our sending out a mountain of Bibles to places like the Goose Creek Correctional Center in Alaska, the Indian River Correctional Institute in Florida, and the Craven County Sheriff Detention in North Carolina, a single KJV was dispatched to a young boy sitting in darkness behind steel bars in a prison cell. Just one more soul. That’s what Bibles Behind Bars is truly all about.

We’re been raising support to send King James Bibles and books out to nearly a dozen different jails and prisons stretching all the way from Florida to Alaska.

Did you know that Jesus started His earthly ministry on Isaiah 61:6, where it talks about proclaiming liberty to the captives? Paul picks that up in the New Testament to tell us that where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. Sending a prisoner a Bible does not directly affect their prison sentence, but it does effect a mighty spiritual change by giving them the gospel of Jesus Christ that works salvation unto liberty. A prisoner locked behind bars, but saved by the blood, is a free person. Think about that.

“Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” 2 Corinthians 3:17 (KJB)

For a few weeks now, we’ve been raising support to send King James Bibles out to nearly a dozen different jails and prisons stretching all the way from Florida to Alaska. We have not yet reached our goal, but making good progress, all in the Lord’s time. When you help us to send out these Bible, New Testaments, scripture portions and gospel tracts, you are reaching the very people that Jesus said that He came for. We’ve sent out hundreds of thousands of pieces of Bible literature, and have seen hundreds of inmates respond to the gospel call to get saved. Can you think of any better way to invest the money God has given you than into the souls of men and women bound behind bars? I can’t.

This week coming up we will start to send out Bibles and gospel literature to the Indian River Correctional Institute in Florida, Salem Correctional Center & Jail in West Virginia, Garza West Unit in Texas, Dominguez State Jail in Texas, Farmington Correctional Center A Side in Missouri, Craven County Sheriff Detention in North Carolina, and the Goose Creek Correctional Center in Alaska. In all it will be about 2,500 Bibles, 1,000 copies of ‘What Must I Do To Be Saved?’, and assorted gospel tracts. We need your fervent prayer and financial support to do all this.
