Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott said on Friday that he isn’t affected by his team’s policy of standing during the national anthem because he would “never protest” during the song’s performance.

Dak Prescott has about the best take I’ve heard so far on the ongoing National Anthem protests taking place during some football games in the NFL. He acknowledges that yes, there is a serious issue that needs to be addressed regarding how some people are treated by some cops. But he also went on to say that protesting during the National Anthem is not the right venue in which to engage in protests.

When I go to a concert, I don’t want the artist to hijack that time to promote their political candidates and agendas even if it’s a position I agree with. Football games are the same, they are entertainment, not a soapbox for political discussion. Hopefully Prescott’s position will catch on with NFL players.

FROM THE DAILY CALLER: “It has no effect to me because I do exactly what I’m doing and what I’ve said and what I stand by,” Dak Prescott said, referring to the policy set forth by team owner Jerry Jones. “Whether I was wearing the star or not, whether I was playing for Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones or any other owner. I believe in what I believe in, and that’s that.” Prescott added that although he does believe in the social justice issues that have led many other players to protest the anthem, he doesn’t think it’s “the time or the venue to do so.”

“I’d never protest during the anthem, and I don’t think that’s the time or the venue to do so,” he said. “The game of football has always brought me such peace, and I think it does the same for a lot of people. When you bring such a controversy to the stadium, to the field, to the game, it takes away … from that. It takes away from the joy and the love that football brings a lot of people. I think this whole kneeling, and all of that, was all about just raising awareness, and the fact that we’re still talking about social injustice years later, I think we’ve gotten to that point,” said the quarterback. “I think we’ve proved it. We know about social injustice. I’m up for taking a next step, whatever that step may be for action and not just kneeling.” READ MORE
