King Hezekiah was one of the very best kings of Judah, and he pleaded with the LORD for longer life, which the LORD granted him. But would he have been better off dead? Hmm.

King Hezekiah was a wonderful king, and honored in the Bible by the LORD. But Hezekiah had other ideas when God told him his life was about up, and pleaded with the LORD for more years. God gave him another 15 years, but when we see how it all turned out, maybe King Hezekiah would have been better off dead? That’s the question we ask today.

Better Off Dead

“Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the LORD.” 2 Kings 20:5 (KJB)

• Hezekiah was one of the best kings Israel ever had outside of David.
• Hezekiah begged God for longer life, and God grants it.
• Hezekiah becomes lifted up in pride. Read 2 Chronicles 32:25-31
• Hezekiah becomes the father of the worst king in all of Israel, Manasseh.

HEZEKIAH IS A VERY GOOD KING:

“He trusted in the LORD God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him.” 2 Kings 18:5 (KJB)

MANASSEH IS A VERY BAD KING:

“And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, after the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.” 2 Kings 21:2 (KJB)

Bible prophecy as it works itself out is a funny thing, a strange thing really, and it’s not unlike the smog in Los Angeles. What do I mean by that? When I lived in LA and would be driving back into town from either Malibu to the north or Palm Springs to the east, when you were about 30 miles out you could see the massive ring a fog hovering over the city, clear as a bell. But when you were almost there, your ability to see the smog greatly diminished to the point when you were in LA, you couldn’t see it at all. Prophecy is like that, really clear when you’re not living in the time prophesied, but not so clear when that time arrives.
