Nearly 8,000 National Guard troops have been requested by the U.S. Secret Service to provide support for the presidential inauguration Jan. 20, the Pentagon said.

We are officially 6 days away from Donald Trump being sworn in as the 47th president of the United States, 5 days away from his (in my opinion) premature victory party on the 19th, and doesn’t it feel like the ‘other shoe’ is getting ready to drop? What do they have planned, I wonder? Seeing how explosive the start of 2025 has been already, it’s good to be something pretty wild.

It would not surprise me in the least if, under a Trump presidency, we finally see a full-time military presence in downtown DC. All for our own ‘peace and protection’, I’m sure. Nearly 8,000 National Guard troops requested to support presidential inauguration

FROM STARS AND STRIPES: The request for 7,800 troops, said Sabrina Singh, deputy spokeswoman for the Defense Department, is expected to be approved by the Pentagon in the coming days. The Secret Service is the lead agency for the inauguration. Once approved, the troops will join 500 National Guards troops already approved to support security operations during the counting and certification of electoral votes on Monday.

The 2025 presidential inauguration was designated a “national special security event” by the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. When an event is designated as a special security event, the federal government, as well as state and local partners, can funnel significant resources to ensure a robust security plan is in place, said Nate Herring, a spokesperson for the Secret Service. He declined to provide specifics, citing operational security reasons.

In an opinion piece published Sunday in The Washington Post, President Joe Biden decried the 2021 attempt to overrun the Capitol to block certification of the 2020 election — seeking to contrast that day’s chaos with what Biden promises will be an orderly transition returning Trump to power for a second term.

Washington DC is gearing up for potential chaos following Election Day as authorities assembled barriers around government buildings – including the vice president’s residence – and business owners boarded up storefronts over the weekend.

Remember back in 2016 when Donald Trump, against all odds, win the presidential election against the mainstream media champion Hillary Clinton? Remember all the riots, lootings, burnings and protests that took place at the hands of disgruntled Democrats? Washington DC gears up for possible election chaos with metal fencing around VP’s home and business boarded up

FROM THE NY POST: The series of security measures come on the eve of the high-stakes presidential race between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris — which has exposed deep divisions and heightened tensions in the US.

The Secret Service placed 8-foot-high metal fences around the White House, and Harris’ home at the Naval Observatory though officials warned there are no specific threats of violence at this time, the Washington Post reported. The metal fencing was also around the Treasury Department complex and adjacent parts of Lafayette Square while the Capitol had temporary bike-rack barriers around its perimeter, according to the newspaper.

“The Secret Service is working closely with federal, state and local partners in Washington, DC and Palm Beach County, Florida to ensure heightened levels of Election Day safety and security,” the agency told the Washington Post Sunday.

“These enhancements are not in response to any specific issue but are part of wide ranging public safety preparations for Tuesday’s election.”

Private business and property owners have also worked to board up street-level windows and entrances in the event violence erupts in DC. Eric J. Jones, of the Apartment and Office Building Association of Metropolitan Washington, told the publication that retailers are concerned about looting and damage.

“We’re not expecting full-fledged pandemonium like we saw after Jan. 6, 2021, or four years ago,” he said.

“I’m getting constant emails and text messages because people are really engaged. … People would rather be overprepared and have nothing happen, as opposed to the alternative,” said Jones, who is the association’s vice president of government affairs.

Admiral Security Services is expected to have 2,000 private security guards work 12-hour shifts at properties around the city, its executive vice president Leon Beresford told the Washington Post.

The growing apprehension comes four years after the Jan. 6 riot on the Capitol and May 2020 protests over George Floyd’s murder that spiraled into violence. Mayhem also erupted before and after Trump’s 2017 inauguration where protesters smashed downtown windows and clashed with police. Government buildings were also guarded with security fencing leading up to the 2020 presidential election.

In addition to the newly installed fencing, DC police announced that starting Monday at 7 p.m. there will be street closures and parking restrictions in anticipation of Harris’ election night party on Howard University’s campus. All of the city’s available 3,300 police officers are reportedly expected to work 12-hour shifts through the election. READ MORE

A massive fence will ironically surround the Capitol while President Joe Biden delivers his State of the Union address on March 7, as federal government issues highest possible security level

Oh, the irony! As Barack Obama prepares to give the State of the Union SOTU 2024 speech through pretend president Joe Biden, the federal government has assigned its highest possible security status to the event with a massive security fence having been put up last night. We don’t need walls and fences on our southern border to keep out illegal alien strangers, but we do need walls and fences to prevent the American people from getting too close to the Capitol building. If we are not a nation on the brink of civil war, I’ll eat may hat.

I won’t be watching the State of the Union address, my King James Bible has already informed me what our true state actually is, we are a drop of a bucket. The only question is can he successfully navigate and deliver those words in a coherent and rational way? I’m thinking not. My heart hurts for the shape America is in in 2024, it’s a hot mess and about to get hotter and messier. Security fence goes up at Capitol for State of the Union address

FROM GAZETTEXTRA: The Capitol Police Board on Friday approved the installation of the fencing. A security fence went up around the Capitol for last year’s State of the Union speech. The State of the Union is designated as a National Special Security Event, the highest security status the federal government can assign to an event. These are determined by the size, scope and potential threat profile.

U.S. Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said people should expect to see a heavy law enforcement presence around the Capitol complex. He noted that there will be technology, plainclothes officers and support teams.

The agency is working with Capitol Police, D.C.’s Metropolitan Police Department, the FBI, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and dozens of other federal and city agencies, Guglielmi said.

The House sergeant-at-arms led a briefing earlier this week that included representatives from the Pentagon, White House and several other agencies and stakeholders on security preparations for the event, a source familiar with the briefing said. READ MORE
