Consider this bible study as your ‘crash course’ in taking your understanding of scripture to the next level, and we will even throw in some 50-cent words like ‘hermeneutics’ just for fun!

Hermeneutics is defined by Merriam-Webster as “the study of the methodological principles of interpretation (as of the Bible)”, which is to say that hermeneutics is the method by which the Holy Bible is rightly interpreted. Paul ups the ante and tells us that if you want to understand the scriptures, you need to rightly divide them before you can rightly interpret them. Herein lies the key to understanding what the Bible does and does not say and teach.

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJB)

On this episode of Rightly Dividing, we are going where 90% of today’s bible teachers, Sunday school teachers and pulpit pastors in any denomination never set foot, Paul calls it ‘rightly dividing’ and there is no other way to understand the scriptures without applying this hermeneutic principle. Your ‘checklist’ goes a little like this – First, you need to have God’s preserved words, do you? Second, you need to study it like a blue collar day-laborer, is that how you read the Bible? Third, you need to determine to whom the passage in question is addressed. Is God talking to the Jews and Israel, the Church, or to the unsaved gentile world at large? Lastly, you have to take what you are reading and ‘rightly divide’ it according to the scripture. 9 out of 10 churches you will ever set foot in do not do this. How can that be? Because Paul said that is the last days, our day, doctrine would no longer be preached, and rightly dividing is absolutely doctrine.
